Privacy and personal data
In order to provide access to this site, we need to collect and store personal information about each user. We respect your privacy and your data will not be shared or sold to any third party. We may send you follow-up emails with key information about the courses you enroll to, including after the course to ask for your evaluation and inform you of future training options or other resources.
What is collected?
Data collected when creating an account includes name, email, country, and gender. We also collect data about your activity on the site, including any contributions that you make (in the course(s)).
How is this information used?
The information collected is used to provide access to the online and blended courses delivered through Marine Training. Furthermore, data is used for reporting purposes to funding agencies only, and it is always anonymized. Data may also be used for learning analytics studies (always using anonymized data).
How long is my data stored?
Your personal data is stored as long as your account is active on this site, and usually up to 5 years after the last course. This minimum period is necessary to comply with the general rules of funding institutions.
Data Handling and Storage
Data collected on this site refers to the participation on training activities organized and/or hosted by Marine Training and its Partners. All data and information collected from participants – regardless of role (learner, facilitator, Instructor - is stored on the Marine Training Database. The database is only accessed by the staff of the Marine Training Unit and is hosted by Ghent University (Belgium). The data is used exclusively to report on training activities and Key Performance Indicators related to training activities implemented by the Marine Training Unit, in compliance with UGent Data Privacy Policy.
Right to withdraw
You have the right to be removed at any moment. You may do so by contacting the Marine Training Unit in writing to the email: marinetraining@ugent.be.
